Description
Shelly 1 Gen3 16A Wi-Fi Smart Relay with Dry Contacts
Add powerful, flexible smart control to almost any electrical system with the Shelly 1 Gen3. This compact single-channel smart relay combines Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth, potential-free dry contacts and Matter support in a remarkably small package.
Unlike conventional smart switches where the relay output is tied to the device’s own power supply, the Shelly 1 Gen3 uses a potential-free (dry-contact) relay. This allows the switched circuit to be electrically isolated from the circuit powering the Shelly, making it an excellent choice for both conventional mains switching and specialised low-voltage applications.
With support for loads up to 16A at 240V AC or 10A at 30V DC, the Shelly 1 Gen3 is suitable for everything from lights and appliances to garage doors, irrigation systems, pumps, contactors and automation equipment.
Why Choose the Shelly 1 Gen3?
🔌 Potential-Free Dry Contact Relay
The dry-contact output is one of the Shelly 1 Gen3’s biggest advantages. Because the relay contacts are electrically isolated from the device’s power supply, you can switch a separate circuit rather than simply switching the same voltage that powers the Shelly.
This makes the Shelly 1 Gen3 ideal for:
- Garage doors and gates
- Electric locks and door controllers
- Irrigation and water pumps
- Contactors and high-power equipment
- Heating and HVAC controls
- Boiler controls
- Low-voltage automation systems
- Lighting and household appliances
- Industrial and commercial control applications
The relay supports up to 16A at 240V AC and 10A at 30V DC, within the specified load requirements.
🌐 Wi-Fi Smart Control – No Hub Required
Connect the Shelly 1 Gen3 directly to your existing 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. No proprietary hub or gateway is required.
Control your device using the Shelly Smart Control app, web interface, compatible smart-home platforms or voice assistants. The Shelly 1 Gen3 can also operate locally on your network, giving you fast control without requiring every command to pass through the cloud.
🏠 Matter Ready
The Shelly 1 Gen3 supports Matter after updating to firmware version 1.6.0 or newer, allowing it to be integrated into compatible Matter smart-home ecosystems. This provides an easy way to bring Shelly devices into broader multi-brand smart-home environments.
Matter compatibility makes the Shelly 1 Gen3 an excellent option if you’re building a smart home around platforms such as:
- Apple Home
- Google Home
- Amazon Alexa
- Samsung SmartThings
- Home Assistant
- Other compatible Matter platforms
⚡ Flexible AC & DC Power Options
The Shelly 1 Gen3 is unusually versatile when it comes to powering the device. It supports:
- 110–240V AC
- 24–48V DC
- 12V DC
This makes it suitable for conventional household electrical installations as well as 12V and 24/48V automation, control and off-grid applications.
📱 Local Control, Automation & Advanced Integrations
The Shelly 1 Gen3 is much more than a simple remote-control relay.
Create sophisticated automations using:
- Schedules and timers
- Smart scenes
- Webhooks
- MQTT
- HTTP/HTTPS
- WebSockets
- UDP
- mJS scripting
- KNXnet/IP
- Local HTTP API
The device includes an integrated web interface, allowing you to configure and control the relay directly from your browser without relying exclusively on an app.
🧠 Powerful Gen3 Hardware
The Gen3 platform brings improved processing power and memory compared with previous generations.
The Shelly 1 Gen3 uses the ESP-Shelly-C38F processor with 8MB of flash memory, providing the processing capacity needed for advanced automation, scripting and future firmware features.
📶 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth
In addition to Wi-Fi, the Shelly 1 Gen3 includes Bluetooth 4.2.
Bluetooth can be used for quick device inclusion and setup, while the device can also function as a Bluetooth gateway for Shelly BLU devices. It additionally provides Wi-Fi range-extender functionality for supported IoT devices.
🌡️ Built-In Temperature Protection
An integrated temperature sensor continuously monitors the device internally. Overheating protection helps protect the relay during operation and provides an additional layer of safety.
📦 Ultra-Compact Retrofit Design
Despite its capabilities, the Shelly 1 Gen3 measures only:
37 × 42 × 16 mm
Its compact form factor allows it to be installed behind many existing light switches, power sockets and other electrical equipment where space is limited.

Smart Control Without Lock-In
The Shelly 1 Gen3 is particularly well suited to users who want flexibility in how their smart home operates. You can use the Shelly ecosystem for a straightforward installation, integrate it with platforms such as Home Assistant, use MQTT or HTTP-based automation, or bring it into a Matter ecosystem after updating the firmware.
This makes it a strong choice for both simple smart-home installations and advanced DIY automation projects.
Important Installation Information
The Shelly 1 Gen3 requires a suitable power supply and neutral connection when powered from 110–240V AC. When switching inductive loads such as motors, transformers, fans or certain LED drivers, Shelly recommends appropriate protection such as an RC snubber where required.
Installation of mains-voltage equipment should be carried out by a qualified electrician and appropriate circuit protection must be provided. Shelly specifies external overcurrent protection with a maximum 16A rated protective device.
